The Prespes Treaty has exposed the huge gap between the people and the government

=============================================================

From the very first moment when the content of the Prespes Treaty was disclosed, an unbridgeable gap between the people and the Government was opened. The vast majority of the Greek people shouted out their opposition to the anti-national content of the agreement, making use of the only means left to them: the rallies. On the contrary, the government, with numerous instruments under its control, took for granted the supposedly national benefit of this treaty.

I will not repeat my views, which have been recorded in my numerous articles, on the wider Skopje problem. I will just remind you that these coincide with those of the Greek people and not those of the government. Nor will I try to prove the correctness of the relevant views of the Greek people, as the problem that I will focus on in the present article concerns in particular the gap dividing the people and the Government, the impact of this gap and the need to address it .

The government, in its attempt to justify its minority opinion against the overwhelming majority of the Greek people, has been forced to choose methods that are not only sad, but also deeply undemocratic, such as:

• Collectively targeting all those who opposing the Prespes Teaty as fascists, marginal, mentally retarded, etc.
• Choosing incompatible combinations of artificial methods in an effort to "prove" that the impressive rallies throughout Greece were joined by just a few thousand protesters!
• Not preventing the Greek Police from viciously striking against Greek protesters and indiscriminately drowning them in chemical gases, thus dangerously affecting their health, with the natural consequence of dispersing the rallies.
• Promoting and / or advocating endeavors to enforce the solution, contained in the Prespes Treaty, by foreign powers, which have vested interests in its success. In particular, Germany, whose responsibility for the impoverishment of our country is enormous and indisputable.

These and more are manifestations of insult, contempt and humiliation of the Greek people, by the government they voted for. And not only the Greeks, within the Greek territory, but also Greeks living overseas. Therefore the wrath of the Greek people against the tactics of their government seems totally justified.

Dark echoes
The deadlock faced by the Government is, amongst others, the need to show that 153 parliamentary votes are far more significant than approximately 70% of the Greek people. Parliamentary votes which were secured with ambiguous methods. The whole attempt went through several phases of secret concerts and meetings, which of course could not have been transparent. For their part, the people insist on demonstrating, hoping to prevent, even at the very last moment, the ratification of this nationally destructive treaty.
The difficulties which must be overcome are thus enormous, as 70% of Greeks who oppose the agreement (in addition to many thousands of Greeks living overseas) must be addressed as collectively handicapped and with special needs, consequently incompetent to form a valid opinion on what is in the best and worse interests of their country.
One also has to accept that the 153 willing to vote for this unacceptable treaty are recognized as superhuman, with far above average judgment and education. They are therefore justified in imposing their opinion on the millions of their "retarded" compatriots! The agonizing question of to where a panic stricken democracy is hiding has received as yet no answer, as those in charge of protecting her refuse to intervene, as they ought to.
People-Government divide
This obvious monstrosity which is naturally impossible to accept, besides being a very serious democratic and constitutional diversion, induces numerous rumors, mainly concerning manipulation in the aim of ensuring the magical number of 150 plus, which is necessary to ratify the Prespes Treaty.
Although the general scenario justifies negative thoughts, I do not allow myself to believe that the Greek Fathers of the nation would ever accept to sell our homeland, our Macedonia, for a position of power or any kind of material or immaterial return. Never ever. I fervently hope that what happened in Skopje did not also happen in Athens!
However, the impressions that have been thus created are very negative and there have been numerous accusations both inside and outside the Council of Ministers and the Parliament, as well as hints of despicable transactions taking place that require immediate clarification. Nonetheless, in spite of the severity of the situation, there has been no reaction from those likely concerned by these accusations.
Nor did the competent governmental committee undertake any investigations to prove their innocence nor was there any relevant judicial investigation to clarify the situation. These terrible accusations therefore, are hovering over the "enlightened ethnic fathers" who are now campaigning to "save Greece" by voting for Prespes!!

Fear in view of the referendum
National issues, and in particular of such gravity as cases involving the concession of name, language and nationality / ethnicity, as explicitly included in the Prespes Treaty, obviously impose the need for a referendum. But our government has ruled out the this option, refusing to even discuss it, in contrast to the Skopje, who felt obliged to ask their own people whether they accepted the Prespa treaty.
It is certain that reality, as it stands, precludes the use of a referendum by the Greek Government. This is basically due to two obvious reasons:
• First, because it is certain that the result of such a referendum would be a shattering NO to the Prespes Treaty. But the Government is unable to accept such a NO. This is because, along with the "enlightened Parliament Members", the Greek Government obviously has reasons to appear convinced that the people are mentally retarded and lacking basic judgement! Therefore, it has to help the people choose. Indeed, in 2015, the same government "saved" the people from the (supposedly) incorrect vote of NO to the memorandums, changing the clearly expressed popular will from NO to YES.
• Second, it is well known that the EU is clearly opposed to referendums on its grounds. And if a member country succeeds in escaping and conducting a referendum, the result rarely agrees with Europe's plans. That is why the very day after a referendum, efforts are being focused on laying the ground requiring a repeat referendum with the same question, but with the prospect of a diametrically different response. A European tactic that shows that not only the Greek government considers its people to be immature in making good choices, but the same goes for the EU leaders concerning all of the member state citizens.
The future of the Agreement
In the absence of unpredictable developments, the anti-national Prespes Treaty will be voted as urgent, on the one hand, to avoid the risk of any awareness as to what some of those willing to vote for this destructive agreement are actually voting for, on the other hand, in order not to prolong Mrs Merkel's distress, so that she can spend a nice weekend.
For my part, however, I am trying to console myself in the belief, which I have already posted on Facebook, that a new Macedonian struggle is now beginning, which must definitely be won. Indeed, the legal framework of this treaty presents enough loopholes allowing to fight for its annulment. And precisely because the loss of Macedonia, which is certain on the basis of Greek concessions, means the end of Greece, the future generations must follow the steps of the Macedonian warriors.
